How to play

What is a case?

A case is one real photo with a few questions about it. Depending on the case you answer the questions. Everything you need is in the photo; the rest is your detective work.

How is my score worked out?

Country: 500 points. City: 800 points. Map pin: up to 3,000 points, the closer the better (within 50 km counts as spot on). Each extra question: 300 points. Your report shows what you got right and the real answers.

What are hints?

Some answers have a Reveal Hint button. It shows the shape of the answer, like “___ _____” for a two-word name, so you know how many letters to look for.

Can I play a case again?

Your first try is the one that counts. After that you can replay it as practice; practice scores don’t count.

Finding cases

Discover, Following and Explore

Discover helps you find new cases and new creators, with some cases from people you follow mixed in. Following shows cases from people you follow, newest first but mixed. Explore is a bit of everything. Good cases come up more often, and new cases get a fair chance too.

Daily Challenge

When there’s a Daily Challenge, it sits at the top of Home. Everyone plays the same case that day.

Search and saving

Use the search bar to find cases, players and collections. Tap the bookmark on a case to save it for later, or the folder button to add it to one of your collections.

Making a good case

What makes a good case?

A sharp photo with real clues: signs, buildings, plants, cars, the sun, the road. It should be solvable with patience, not luck. Write clear questions with one right answer.

Which photos can I use?

Only photos you took yourself or have permission to share. Never post private information about a person: no faces of strangers as the main subject, no home addresses, no licence plates of private people, nothing meant to find or harass someone.

Why does my case say “pending”?

Every case is reviewed before it goes public. That usually doesn’t take long. If it’s rejected you’ll see the reason on the case page. You can fix it with Edit Case, or ask for another look with the appeal box.

Can I edit a case after posting?

Yes. Open your case and use ⋯ → Edit Case. Editing sends it back for a quick review before the changes go live.

Is there a limit?

You can post up to 10 cases every 30 minutes.

Ratings and reviews

Players rate cases with stars after playing. Everyone sees the average; written reviews are only visible to you as the creator.

Notes

How do notes work?

Inside any case, tap the round notes button. You can keep up to 3 notes per case with text and pictures (paste them or upload). Notes save as you type and are only visible to you.

Can I move or back up my notes?

Drag the notes window by its top bar, resize it from the corner, or make it full size. Use the download button for a backup file (with pictures) or a text file, and the upload button to bring notes back.

Profiles & community

Sharing solves

After you solve a case you can share it to your profile and to Community, where people can like and comment. Solves you didn’t share stay in your Private solves tab, and you can share them later.

Community

Community shows solves shared by people you follow. Follow players from their profile or from Search.

Mentions

Creators can make a case for you by mentioning you. You’ll find those in your Mentions tab. You choose who can mention you in Settings.

What does the tick next to a name mean?

It means the account is verified.

Privacy & safety

Private accounts

Turn on Private in Edit Profile. Then only people you accept can see your cases, solves, collections and who you follow. Others still see your name, picture and follower count.

Blocking and reporting

Use the ⋯ menu on a profile to block someone. Use Report on a case, post, comment or profile if something breaks the rules. Reports are reviewed, and the person you report isn’t told who reported them.

Deleting your account

Settings → Danger Zone. Your cases stay up as “Deleted account” unless you tick the box to delete them too.

My account was suspended

You’ll see why and until when when you sign in, and you can send an appeal from that screen.
